Pregnant Alone, Finding A Job
| Q |
I’m seven months pregnant with my fiancé’s baby. This is our first child and he’s gone all the time. I tell him it wouldn’t be so hard if I wasn’t stressing about his phone ringing with an unexpected load when he is home, or if I knew by chance when he was going to come home. We live in the middle of nowhere and my family lives 2000 miles away. With no friends and no family near, it’s even harder. I feel like I’m going through this pregnancy all alone. How can I make it better and not feel like I’m losing my mind? Please help! It’s so hard when she moves and kicks and he’s not here to feel her. |

He is taking care of his family… Yes, it would be great if he were there for every second of the pregnancy, but the fact is that someone has to earn the money to pay the bills. I’m sure he misses you, and I am also sure he is wishing he could be there to feel the baby kick and move. He is doing the mature responsible thing, though, and providing for you and the baby by working. Keep a journal for him to read when he comes home. Take pictures of your growing tummy. Find ways to share this experience with him. It will help you connect with him, also. I suggest you invite a family member to come stay with you until the end of the pregnancy. You will feel less alone and will have someone there to help out as you get closer to your due date and are less able to get about. I would also recommend that you get involved in your community. Volunteer at the local library or elderly home and meet people. You can’t stay locked up in the house 24 hours a day. You will feel less alone and less isolated. |

I wanted to comment on an answer I had recently read. You had mentioned that FL was out of the main traffic lanes; would you please list TX and AZ as well. I have sent out a total of over 80 résumés and applications through the web and by mail and fax. When emailed, and not quite put on the spot as to what the status of my application is, I receive phone calls stating that the company does not hire out of the state that I am in, or does not hire out of the 50m radius of Phoenix, Tuscan, or Yuma, yet all these companies can sit at the Love's, flying J, and Pilot in Kingman, AZ. What do I do when a company is told to put in writing what is going on with an application, and instead I receive a phone call, taken from the application, even though the high priority email is read? (I do know how to use the high priority/read receipt buttons). I have even stated that if the company is willing to put in writing that I am hired, I will relocate to an area more convenient for home-time. At this rate, I will be on permanent unemployment, regardless of the economic situation in America. |

I did a quick Google search for trucking companies who are hiring out of Texas and Arizona. In Texas alone I found 11 nationally known companies and 36 local/ state companies who are hiring. You need to apply with the companies that have terminals in those states. It’s an easy enough thing to research. Also, try layover.com’s jobnet. |
