Family Center - A Trucker's Wife

Just a pile-up Waiting to Happen? Keeping Hubby Part of Thanksgiving.
I hate driving in states that use the speed limit to cripple trucks, particularly California. The second you enter the state you have to break the law. The state makes drivers go 55 mph no matter if they are in town or in the desert. How dumb is that? Do they know how dangerous it is to pass another truck when the cars in the left lane are going faster than 55? It puts all of the public in danger. We trucks have to drive just to stay out of the way. Plus when you put trucks to a 55 limit you take the chance of major pile-up of trucks, all afraid to pass for fear of a ticket or getting in the left lane and hurting a four-wheeler. We are a bigger danger to you at 55 then at 70!
Truck drivers should be allowed to do our jobs. We are trained professionals and use skills that most don't even know about. Today, I crossed the open desert at a more reasonable speed. Other trucks saw me passing them and soon more than thirty had fallen in line with me and away we went. It was like they where waiting for someone to lead the way.
O.K., now that I'm done venting, on to a happier note. November is time for Thanksgiving. Like many drivers, we had to spend the holiday out on the road last year. My kids where mad and I was sad. Many of you might be in a similar situation this Thanksgiving-your husband might be on the road for that special meal. Here are some things you can do this year to keep him part of the day.
- In the morning, take a picture of the kids waking up, then a picture of you preparing all the pies, turkey, and trimmings.
- Take a picture of the kids playing in the yard or doing other things on the day.
- Have the kids make a big card then take a picture of you all sitting down to eat the big meal with the big "We love you Daddy" card in his spot at the table. If you make him apart of the day, he will not be so sad about being away.
