Family Center - A Trucker's Wife

Snap Out of It
Well, I have been home for the last four weeks because of an illness. And guess what? I discovered something to write about. For the last week, I have woken up with an "I don''t care attitude." One day just rolled into the next with nothing new, just the same old same old. This morning I figured out why. I was letting myself wait around for Terry to get back home. I couldn''t believe with my experience at this stay-at-home spouse thing, I could let it happen, but I did. While your spouse is home he is the center of your existence and when he leaves, you have to shake that off and live.
OK, for all of you new to trucking or with husbands that just went over the road after a long break: "Snap out of it!" The hardest part of trucking is waiting for him/her to come home and deal with all of the "stuff." Stopping your life until he/she returns is a bad habit to fall into. Life passes by so quickly before you know it, a week has gone by and nothing you wanted to do is done. It''s hard to break the habit, but do it you must. Today, I am going to fix my sink, clean the yard, and start my granddaughter''s blanket. The best way to break out of the doldrums of the want-him-home syndrome is to start a project. Not everything in your life involves him or needs his input. Make a plan and get busy. Force yourself to get busy if you have to. Give yourself so many days to finish and make sure you finish by that date. A long-term goal for some fun helps too. Plan a trip, say for six months from now. Make all the arrangements and put the trip on your calendar. It will give you something to look forward to. It''s great when he comes home but believe it or not, it can be great while he is away too
