Default Becoming a Trucker

I am trying to attend school, I am going to have to take out a loan for that but I want to know if I am very employable once I turn 21 on november 5th. I have not one thing on my driving record. I have no arrests or convictions. I have never been in the back of a police car. I have only had 5 jobs in the last 3 years. What do you guys think??? And if there are any recruiters out there willing to hire me and train me that would be great. I live in colorado btw.

Default Drivin'

You need to talk to companies you're interested in. You may find out you're too young for interstate OTR but OK for intrastate or agricultural hauling.
You may find out you have to be 23 or 25 before some interstate companies will hire you.
It's not because they wouldn't want to, just that their insurance company won't go for it.
Btw, recruiters don't hire, they just set the hook. BOL

Default your

still young.....see if there is a trade school, jr college with cdl training...your still a little young for otr,,,,but intratate your employable.....but take it slow....your state has some of the worst winter roads...don't start out in the winter.....get some summer driving under your belt.....and remember first part of winter, first part of spring....show the most caution....

Default Research some more.

I suggest you go to www.classadrivers.com/truckingcompanies.php and see the company policy for DUI, DWI, accidents, tickets, felony convictions and, in your case, age requirement. You should also do a search on the layover message board for the companies you are interested in. For example: CR England is not talked about favorable here.
Clean driving and police records are definite pluses. 5 jobs in 3 years could require an explanation. Because of the high number of applicants, companies just don't take anyone.

Thanks for your replys. I know I can't drive interstate tell I am 21. The school that I am hopefully going to go to says we can start sooner and get me hired on temp local until I turn 21 and can go to one of the starter companies. The guy that owns this school used to train at one of the larger schools and doesn't make his a cdl mill. He concentrates the driving on the big things streets, turns, and backing. He says he puts you in the truck and drives you hard for about an hour until you are sweating. When it comes to the exam the examiners tell you once what you are supposed to do then you do it they don't talk you through it. The url is below. I am just waiting until after this labor day weekend is over to find out if I can get financed. He says he has recruiters for otr drivers from diffrent companys not just one or two.

Check the age requirements. Call the toll free number for companies you are interested in and ask. Now is the time to start making contact with the companies.

Default School

I am in school and they worked it out so that I will turn 21 on the 10th and graduate the 12th.

Most companys for OTR only hire at least 23 yr olds. I think there are like 3 good ones that will accept the young'ins.

Best bet may be to stay local for a few yrs if ya really want that OTR experience with a top company.

WOW! Those replies were WAY too positive! Where are all the nay-sayers? "Don't go into trucking, they'll chew you up an' spit you out!"
"Only losers in life would even consider driving a truck(even though I've been driving for YEARS)""***** ***** moan moan whine complain!!".............that is what I expected to hear from you 'pollyanas' out there!!;-)

BTW: tunskin, good luck to you and I hope you find a good company to drive for.
