Default pick ups and del

You have little if anything to do with setting up your pick ups or deliveries this is handled by the marketing department, load cordinator, and dispatch may or may not have some say.About the only input the driver has is when you give dispatch your avaliable hours. There are no set driveing hours one day you may drive nights to del in the A.M.the next you may drive days and del in the P.M.

Trucking is a no set time frame. Meaning one day you'll be driving all day to be on schedule, another day all night to keep on schedule. Sometimes you can get kind of a regular schedule but usually first starting out you'll have irregular hours and loads of stress. That's part of the job and why alot of people who start end up hating it.

Atleast you are looking at the area of trip planning, that's a weakness of most newbies. Usually you can tone down some of the stress and weariness with effective trip planning.

If you want to get prepared, try constantly changing your time schedules. One day go to sleep around 4 am, another time 8pm, and when you get tired try to get busy doing things. This will give you an idea of what it will be like. This is not intended to smart a$$ in anyway, just giving you an idea of what's ahead. BOL

Default Both

are true responses, unless you get on a dedicated or time sensetive type run you will have a very unsettling schedule.

You may have to adjust your schedule abit over what dispatch wants do to weather conditions, late loading or late to unload after arriving.

Default nights

Running at night has lots of pluses. Its great especially on 2 lanes to just barrel on thru. Almost non existent traffic on the major routes, fewer DOT and less scales open.

The big downside is after unloading having to stay awake for your next dispatch and then getting over there to load sometimes in the afternoon hours.

And thats the bottom line because Big Joe said so.

Default night driving

night driving has its good points and bad. a lot of people have their time body clock where they can drive at night ad sleep during the day. yea pick ups and drops and be hard but you just have to adapt and overcome. but if you are tired please for pete's sake stop and take a nap. No amount of freight if worth losing your life or someone else's
