Do "Travel Centers" really care about Truck Driver
Do these travel centers & travel plazas (not the old fashioned Truck Stops) really care about Truck Drivers? The drivers I work for say NO and I have personal experience to know that "they ain't interested in drivers services, they just want the BIG bucks to roll in," as 1 driver told me. Yesterday I heard this story from a 6 wheeler I worked for. He said that at 9am yesterday, at the Pete-Row, (not the Pete-ter-built) they had a big chunk of the restaurant (The Plastic Kill-it) roped off for a "military convoy" that was comming to eat. The places was packed & a lot of drivers were sent away HUNGRY (NO ROOM FOR THEM to eat, they would rather feed the UNConstitutional bunch). Guess when the convoy came? 5 hours later! Are these drivers telling me right, or are they just crying, and/or have a good reason to cry? It seems that if these "travelcenters" wanted to cater to truck drivers, they wouldn't chase away the CB Shops (like myself), the wheel polishers, and anyone else doing lawful good services for drivers. But they say that the insurance industry is to blame. I say that the MAIL OFFICE and/or owners are to blame. What do YOU say?

Too bad there was a mix up in the time, being 5 hours late, but our Military men and women always come first, the Reserves, Guard and Regular Military are the people that keep this country free of bullies.
I salute the Military of the United States of America !

I do too, but I asked 2 "women in green" if they are with the US or the UN and they didn't answer me! Didn't our founding Fathers warn us about standing armies are bad for liberty? And WHO are the real "bullies" in our land today? Enemies to our Constitution, DOMESTIC. My US Constitution says that THE PEOPLE come first. When the green vehicles don't say US on them, then WHOSE are they?

Tourist Stops of America
Its no secret that for years the large truckstop chains have catered to the tourist traffic. Seems they have forgotten who made them in the first place.
At least Petro has dedicated truck fuel desks as does TA where you do not have to wait an eternity to pay for fuel while waiting behind kids buying potato chips and cokes, and senior citizens in RV's who cant decide if they want a Mountain Dew or a 7UP.
As far as Military convoys why give our space to them? Let them park in the woods and eat C-Rations.
And thats the bottom line because Big Joe said so.

Re: Do Not
Nurse Red, puh-leez..By asking you to put in more clinics in other truck stops does not mean they care about the drivers. That is merely an excuse to generate more revenue in the form of rntal space.
They could care less if we drop dead of a heart attack while we are there.

Re: Do
Well Dave,
I must put my two cents worth in here. I run a medical facility that caters to the transportation industry and it is located in a T/A Truck stop. I have been a tenant there for 5 years. I lease space from them to provide our services to the traveling public. At first they were hesitant to allow this as they were concerned about "insurance liabilities". We have allayed those fears over the last 5 years. We have grown and succeeded to the point that they are interested in us opening more of our facilities in their Travel Plazas all over the US. They are offering us space in any of their Plazas we choose.
This tells me that they DO care about the drivers. Why else would they offer something like this?
You indicate that they are chasing off CB shops and tire polishers. I must ask, Do you rent legitimate space from the Travel Plaza in question or do you just cruise the lot looking for business? I know the tire polishers do cruise the lot and are often seen banging on truck doors to peddle their services. Drivers are there for several reasons, most often to get the required rest they need. So someone hawking their wares by going truck to truck is a problem, much like Lot Lizards. Now, mind you, I am not comparing you or what you do to prostitutes, but I'm trying to point out some issues of concern that the travel plaza has with this type of business.
I also want to point out that CB shops are often very noisy tenants when they do lease space. We were located next to one for awhile and it very congested, loud and smoky, not a good tenant to have next to a broker, barber shop, store, or any other business.
If you are an actual tenant, maybe they didn't not like the bad PR you spread with your comments on their management and restaurants. I seem to remember a rather derogatory name you had for their restaurant. If you are going to be part of the Travel Center, you have a responsibility to conduct yourself professionally. If you have a problem with the management decisions made there, take it to the general manager, don't go around spouting nasty comments.
In other words, You may have bitten the hand that feeds you.
As for travel Plazas allowing RV's and such, their money spends as well as yours. They have just as tough a time getting into a regular filling station as an 18 wheeler would. Can they do something about having a truckers only line? Maybe if space allows for it. And maybe they don't have that option. Unless you are part of the management, you wouldn't know that.
I suggest that if you have suggestions as to how to provide better service for drivers, take it to management in a positive manner. Tell them the problems you see and offer solutions instead of running around undermining what they do and questioning the customers as to who they are and why they are there.
Just my 2 cents worth
Keeping you safe, healthy, and on the road.

Hey Nurse Red, now that your medical service is taking off, are you going to do it now just for the money? Turn into another feeble minded corporate America type or still be an honest practitioner of medicine? The big truck stops only exist to rip people off! Its that simple. Now that your going to expand to more of them, are you going to follow suit? I only go to a big ego stop for fuel when I can't find a mom&pop or the fuel is cheaper then the mom&pop across the road. Then after fueling at the big stupid TA,Petro, etc., I go find a mom&pop to spend my real money at. I HATE the big truck stops and know alot of other people that do just as much as I do. Big truck stops are a bunch of flash and glitz. They are bull****....Lot lizards are trash as well. God help all the lot lizards find new lives and leave us work-o-haulics alone!

YOU tell them BIG JOE! Since I am a 1 man operation CB shop, only doing MORE CB work for truck drivers in the last 4 years out of the last 21, I am new to the truckers world. Everything in that world I know I've learned from GOOD drivers. The comments you made seem to come from the thousands I've talked to also. The TA does seem to be a bit better than the other BIG boys on the block, from my dealings with them and from listening to you guys. Dave

Here is your & THE problem--THE traveling public. Drivers want seperate & equal facilities, not some yuppie designed, all in one, one size serves ALL "travel Plaza or center." This center was made in College, not the REAL world.
At first they were hesitant to allow this as they were concerned about "insurance liabilities". We have allayed those fears over the last 5 years. We have grown and succeeded to the point that they are interested in us opening more of our facilities in their Travel Plazas all over the US. No, the "traveling public." This means 4 wheelers or vacationers as you college grads call it!

Don't put me in a LUMP of what you've seen. I have a business & following that you have never imagined how I do it! Lets just say that I use to be @ a TA and now am not, but I have no problems with them and they are good folk there. My explanation is what happened at another brand BIG travel plaza. If you couldn't figure out which one, no wonder you accused me of all kinds of things!
I know the tire polishers do cruise the lot and are often seen banging on truck doors to peddle their services.
I have never seen this. I just hear them on the CB.
I do NOT nor did I do that in the past ever. Being on the CB is all I need, and personal visibility is also nice.

I as a 1 man operation, when working, am never noisy unless I am preaching to corporate geeks in the Medical Indistrial Complex such as yourself. I would bet that if we had space next to each other, YOUR place would be the most noisy, with YELLS from them senior 4 wheelers yelling when you poked them with that placebo needle!
>>

>>
>>>>If you are an actual tenant, maybe they didn't not like the bad PR you spread with your comments on their management and restaurants. I seem to remember a rather derogatory name you had for their restaurant.
The "derogatory name for their restaurant" was meant to be FUNNY and to show which of the BIG boys I was talking about. It's sad that College causes you to think this way!
If you are going to be part of the Travel Center, you have a responsibility to conduct yourself professionally. If you have a problem with the management decisions made there, take it to the general manager, don't go around spouting nasty comments.
I am nor was never, but did work at a travel center in the past. I was totally independant. That is a word that you never learned in College. Independant. When I worked there, I promoted the travel center to the highest degree and had NO problems with anyone there. I had NO problems with management.
>>

No, I never bit anyone's hand. That sounds like a medical proceedure that I am not familiar with! Is that your specialty?

The truck driver sees what is going on ON the field in the real world. I see very few RV's taking fueling space. They should park in the 4 wheeler lots, which some do. The question I think the driver asks, IS this a TRUCKER plaza or a traveling public plaza? THAT IS the question!!!

Boy are you LOST. I have taken ALL of the problems I have seen AND offered solutions AND have been MORE positive than my O+ blood. What they did affected me directly, and The Lord brought judgment to them that AM and I'm sure he will continue to do so. This did NOT happen at a TA. I was not "running around" but was told what happened by a 6 wheeler I did work for. I did not "undermine" anything. I was removed from the situation. When I see any military or veteran, I always ask the same question: DID YOU or are you working for the US or the UN? So I put 2 & 2 together and saw what GOD did to them (the travelplaza) for their many violations of man's & God's law done to HIS people. Why is it that you big coprprate types DO NOT like the truth? I have HIT HARD these truths to managers & heads of corporations in the last few months. What I got is denial. YOU will see what will happen when you quit listening to the LITTLE MAN !!!! It's called "bankrupt" I guess!!!!! DO you understand that word?

This is what I have heard as a CB shop. The drivers KNOW that the BIG travel plazas hate them because they see the evidence of this. The evidences are (from what I see): NO or less services. Run the wheel polishers off & CB shops & others doing REAL Lawful services for drivers. Mix the "travelling public" with the truckstop to produce what? More $$$$ for us but more disgust for the drivers!!!! You drivers can add more to this, since you see more than what I have seen. This is the "barney principle."
