Default Simple Questions

I am not very familiar with the trucking, but I am interested in getting into it. I am thinking about going to get training but I wanted to find some information first. My wife would like to travel with me on my trips I wanted to know if this was possible. Also we were thinking about going full time instead of coming back home, our idea is to live on the road and save some money to purchase a house when I have enough experience to get a local job, is this possible. Were would we shower/wash clothes.

Default All of this is possible, but

You will have to get into and through all your training before your wife would be allowed to become a passenger. There are a few folks living on the road. Truckstops have showers and you get "free" showers with the purchase of a certain amount of fuel. The landry can also be done at the truckstops or at a laundrymat.

If I go to a training program is there a training period after I sign on with a company before my wife could come?

Thank You

Default Family Riders

Most companies will want you to wait about 6 months to a year before someone can ride along with you. If you get out there and don't have any problems, they may allow it sooner. It all depends on where your working. Ask the company when you look into the schooling.

Default :re

Why not have your wife train with you? There are many couples that work together and teaming would net you more miles and even though you're splitting the pay, it's going to the same household anyway.

But like the posters said above, it all depends on the company and their rider policy

Default a trucker's life for me

It is way better to go OTR together than to be hubby gone on the road and wife at home... but it is also challenging.

I won't go into all the details here because you will find out through experience. The post suggesting that she go through school with you is a good post- if she doesn't want to truly team drive you may be able to find a company to hire you as a couple, run you solo and she could give you a break when you are tired...

I have been running team with my husband for 11 years and it's been quite an adventure/learning experience. Click on the URL below for a not-so-in-depth article on the trucking lifestlye. There are some other articles that might be of interest to you if you poke around there.

Posting on this board and other boards will help get you info but until you are actually on the road, you won't know. (recruiters will say anything and you may find they are wrong...).

Happy searching.
