A little help please.

I realize this isn't really trucking related, but wtf – how much of this forum is anymore?

What I'm wondering is if any of the two or three of you who still read this have a Facebook page. I'm not asking for a link to your page, or anything else which might compromise whatever anonymity you wish to maintain... although if you'd like to share it – please go for it.

I'm just interested in your experiences or opinions about it. And by the bye, Layover has a Facebook page, and I even asked there (and very politely) why they didn't clean up this forum. I didn't realize such a thing was possible, but they are even less forthcoming than Joel or Dawn or Zeranko with an answer, and in fact, my post was deleted. Wow!

Ennehoo – any observations about it are appreciated.

It's trucking related if you mentioned the word "truck" in your post and you did. No surprise that they deleted your FB question.

But on FB... I do have a page. I only got it to keep in touch with my kids when they did the exchange student thing, my daughter went off to college and then my son went into the Army. It was pretty cool to read the comments and see the pictures, but I cautioned the kids about posting potentially embarassing stuff since it can come back to haunt them.

Other than that, I have no use for it and I think it's kinda distracting. I mean, you get all those messages like, "so and so added a friend you might know." and so on. Huh? Who cares??? Also, people see your page and want to 'friend' you but I just don't have the time or interest to keep up with that stuff. Of course, if I don't friend them, they'll probably offended.

I know, I'm too old and missing something here but I have little use for FB and social networking.

Thanks Ike, and there are a couple of reasons I asked.

I've only recently set up a FB page (6 mos. >or<) and they've altered their format quite a bit – a lot of grumbling going on, with no way to get any answers from the cadre. (Sound familiar?) Like you, I find I have little use for it, and they even took down a pic I had posted shortly after joining. Unbelievable! I guess someone complained - I can only speculate that it was a “friend” of a “friend.”

I also read an article recently which claims some prospective and current employers are using it to check.up on workers and applicants. Man, that would piss me off.

Well I can understand why the picture might have been removed. Is Bachmann really eating a corndog???

The part about the employers also bugs me a bunch. Apparently some employers do scan for indiscreet posts on websites and something silly could cost a person a decent job. I don't sweat that at my age but I do worry about the kids. It is possible to get a download of everything FB has on us and I did. No surprise, not much on me.

I'll probably close my account in the near future because I have no need for it.
