Default How old is old?

I am retiring soon and have always wanted to drive OTR. At various times, I have driven a variety of large straight trucks - delivery, etc., but never a semi. I am prepared to get the necessary training and find a driving job wherever. However, my question is this - will a trucking company take on an older driver? My health, strength, eyesight, etc. are fine and, although I am retiring shortly from 22 years in another line of work, I do not wish to stop working. Any response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all. Steve

Long haul trucking is one of the very few fields of work that has few or no age limitations. As long as you can pass a DOT physical age will not be a barrier to you. I have seen men in their 70's hired for their first time trucking job.

I'm a driving instructor at a large reefer company out west.We routinely get students through the school in the late 50's and early sixties.I'm sure we've had a few in their 70's before..

As Joe mentioned,as long as a driver can still pass the physical and obtain a medical card, most companies don't care how old you are..

Good luck..
