Howdy,Mike..Yep,still alive and well.Especially since I gave up the smokes!Took a few tries but I guess with a few months under my belt this time around,I think quitting finally stuck ..
Just to avoid any confusion,Mike,I'm not an OTR trainer..I'm an instructor at a driving school/ large trucking company in Utah.No,it's not England!
We take rookies who've never been in a truck before,teach them to back up,shift gears,make turns etc..All to get them ready to test out and be put with a trainer.Most make it through,some don't and we send them home...
I think,in some ways,it's even more harrowing than being a trainer..At least by the time the trainer gets them,they've been on the highway a few times..
I'm the guy that takes them on the highway for the first time!
I enjoy the work,it's kinda fun teaching the rookies,and best of all,it gets me home everynight. So,far, I've avoided sleeping in a truck for 3 years now!
9 years was enough..
