Default Misdemeanor ?

Got a Question. I had a misdemeanor charge in 1977 for pot. I was convicted and sentenced to 1 yr probation and a $500.00 fine. Do you believe trucking companies will hold this against me after all these years
when I apply for a job?

You'll probably be ok with most companies,as long as you don't try to conceal it.As you probably know, they are going to run a background check on you. They will find out your dirt. Just come clean on it.Since it's a very old misdemeanor,it probably wont knock you out of the running like all the people on here with felonies.

Good luck just the same..

It's not the end but,not a good start.
So?
Did you divulge this info on the applications you submitted?
I hope you don't change it to a felony as you can read
the threads about them.

I have checked backed over my other applications and I did check the box yes for a misdemeanor. It has been over 30 years and I didn't think much about it till I received a copy letter from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation showing a background check requested from KLLM. Their app only asked if I had a felony charge. Other than that I'm clean. I was a fairly smart young man at 22 and I spent overnight in jail for that stupidity and learned very quickly that I liked my freedom better then behind bars and that's all I got to say about that.

I would not worry about it. Just don't expect to get into Canada those crazy communists will hold anything against you. Not that you'll want to go there anyways. :-)

Another What Thippy? So everybody has to be perfect if your refering to a misdemeanor that happened over 30 years ago and have worked hard ever since then. I was young and in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I come here to seek advice and not to be criticized by people who don't even know me. And yes I'm getting defensive.

I think Thippy is lumping you in with the seemingly endless stream of felons who are coming to this board looking for work.

I can't blame them for wanting to get on their feet and all, but if Administration would just COMBINE THESE TYPE OF THREADS,it would cut down on a lot of the repetitive nature of this board.

As others have pointed out, you will probably be ok.I don't even think you'll have a problem running into Canada as I don't believe weed possesion is a felony there.I've heard they've legalized it up there.Something about being a progressive nation that isn't ruining peoples lives over non violent drug offenses..

Again, best of luck and cut Thippy a little slack.

I do apologize for being so critical of you...It's just starting to get old.

Day after day we have people coming on here asking for forgiveness for their past and I for one am sick of it.

I have always tried to be a true professional and did my best to have the public think the best of us. But with all the low-lifes trying to get into this profession it truly disgusts me.

I am not asking anyone to be perfect....I am only asking that people that made the wrong choice in the life "need not apply".

Sure, I had many chances to go down the wrong path in my life...I chose not to. Maybe my life is very boring compared to yours.

But because I chose the right path don't chastise me! Instead look at yourself and try to figure out why you made the wrong choice.

Don't ask me for forgiveness, cause you won't get it!

I understand you getting defensive...That's the first thing criminals need to do....Look for a DEFENSE attorney.
