I was turned down by US Express because I was terminated with circumstances I did not want to discuss from my last job over a year ago.
I was in the manufacturing field and wanted a change for a little freedom so I went to school for 10 weeks to learn to be a commercial truck driver and had fun doing it. I was employed at this company for ten years before being let go. At 54 it was a kick in the guts and I felt I let my family down. I could go in to why I was terminated but,it would serve no useful purpose now. It just sounded so discouraging when the lady I spoke with said that it was company policy not for me enter into their company with my last job being terminated from even though I had no criminal past or driving offenses. It was just a bigger kick in the guts and dishearting. I am just trying to get my foot in the door and some miles behind me. It's not the end but,not a good start. ![]() |

Yeyang's comment was right on the money -- sad, but true. All you can do now is to keep plugging away and applying. In the end, you might find something that pays a living wage (barely) and offers some bennies (danmed few) but employers aren't stupid and they'll pay not a penny more than what it takes to put meat in the seat.
Rant on - When I read threads like these I wonder if anyone is really thinking about them. Finding a decent paying job with bennies isn't just a problem for a few individual posters, it's a nationwide problem. Everyone is looking for the same thing but the trend is less employment, lower wages and fewer bennies. Gee, who could have seen that coming? Employers have no incentive to give you better pay/bennies because they know their competitors aren't going to and you have no choice but to take what they offer you. How do we change that? Pray? Wish real hard? The solutions are fairly simple but if I posted it here, someone would b!tch that it belonged on the politics forum. Rant off |

Whether you were "layed off" or "terminated" is just a play on words. What it boils down to is that you are out of work.
Some carriers have stricter policies than others. Keep plugging away, pounding the pavement and putting in them applications. Good luck to you.
