Where to for 1.85?? Most of the time it would be to Portland or Tacoma. Of course once there Id get a back haul to the midwest for about 1.00 to 1.35 cpm. But the two trips together would make for a decent week.
Construction is going ok but I miss the road, I guess maybe Im just crazy, I hate being stuck n one city and not being out there, I really did love it. Thanks for the honest replys, Dave |

Thanks for the comeback, Dave. I'd say that from your examples ($1.85, $.76, $1.00 & $1.35) that rates can vary quite a bit and it would be impossible to answer "What are the rates these days???
I don't know if I'd sacrifice my health and family life by quitting construction, even if the money was better and OTR more fun. ![]() |

I am a company driver. I recently got a fax from my dispatcher for some reload info. The fax originated from the broker, and the load could be described as "backhaul" or "repositioning", pretty well the bottom of the barrell. Dry freight, Shipper load, Receiver unload (1 hr. each), Great Lakes region, 420 miles, worked out to $1.72 per mile.

Dave was joking when he wrote, " so I thought I would ask people who REALLY know......." and he's probably aware that drivers don't understand trucking business because we don't read. Drivers hear rumors on the CB, or around the truck stop, and pass them on as fact. ![]() Something like this would tell a driver that trucking has excess capacity, too little freight, plenty of idle trucks, 3000 companies shut down last year, and rates haven't been lower in a decade. No surprise, "non-asset based companies" are making more money; those are the outfits that put the freight on some other dummy's truck... ![]() Based on that article, I wouldn't look for a meaningful increase in rates until 2011. |
