Default Steven's Transport

Does anyone know anything about this company? I have been to one of their hiring seminars. Of course, they make everything sound wonderful, so I was hoping to hear from someone, firsthand. Thanks :-).

Default Stevens Transport

I have a very good friend at Stevens Transport, give him a call and tell him his friend Kim from United Van Lines suggested You give him a call. His name is Mac Gumball.
If I was just starting out or wanted to go with a company who ran all 48 this would be one of the first choices for myself. There are other companies who you might want to check out but first you have to decide what it is you are looking for and what type of training you will need. If you are already with your foot in the door (CDL) in hand, then you need to deciede what type of trailer or product you want to specialise in,so you can give it 100% of all your attention to be able to increase your skills not only as a driver but as a repasenitive of your company and it's product. Learn all you can about the company and it's benifits. Ask the recruiter what kind of driver turn over they have. Every story has two sides, and most of your reputable companies did not makke it this long in this industry creating problems for their drivers, Discuss any issues you may have and ask lots of questions. Remember the only wrong question is the one that wasn't asked.

Default I worked there

The company isn't a bad company. I was very impressed by the company, the equipment and the team playing the staff does with the drivers. It wasn't a bad experience with the office staff. I just happened to have a really unprofessional trainer there. Stevens would have "made it right" if I would have given them the chance, but I didn't, although I should have.

I was impressed. Good benefits, long runs, etc.

I think it'd be a good choice.

Default Refer's????????

I can't remember but isn't Steven's a refrigerated transfer company. I started out in refer and I did not like it.
These people trying to get a new job they just have no idea what refer is all about and should be informed of what is involved first before they jump in with both feet.

Default Georgia Girl

So, you actually worked for them, then? How long? Care to tell me more about your experience with them? I am impressed by them, as well, but you know the recruiter always tells you everything you want to hear, and not necessarily what you need to hear.

Thanks again.

Default Two Responses

I have only driven refrigerator. I have pulled a dry box, but actually I prefer refrigerated freight over dry box freight any day. However, it's a personal preference and depends greatly on the kind of equipment the company operates.

I enjoy refrigerated freight because I always have a load. You can haul both reefer and dry loads and I find I have greater availability when pulling a refrigerator. To me, running a refrigerator is as easy as turning the unit on and off and hitting the enter button when setting the temperature. With a reefer trailer, you don't even have to sweep out the trailer. Just pull up to a washout facility and BAM, the job is done. But like I said, it's all about personal preference.

Oh, one more thing on refrigerator...sleeping with that thing running is like sleeping on a giant vibrator :) It's good sleeping!! LOL. It just sort of lulls you to sleep.

As for the other question, Stevens was good in that they had an incredible orientation session. Although I felt much like a child when going through it, I learned a BUNCH. There appeared to be great communication with drivers and dispatch and the availability of loads seemed to never be a problem. There weren't any layovers of any significant value, although some of the customer places in Los Angeles WERE ROUGH areas of the neighborhood. But all in all, I didn't mind it.

I think the only issue I had was the fact that the tractor and trailer couldn't come home with me. I had to find a secure lot to park them in. And in rural Georgia, that's not an easy task. My yard is about as secure as it gets, but that wasn't sufficient for dispatch and they "made" me park at a Kenworth dealership or Thermo King dealership 85 miles away.

Anyway, my experiences weren't bad. The trainer was pathetic and I never really shared my negative training experience with the staff there, although I did let on to someone whenever they called me at home to ask me when I'd be returning......and they seemed very concerned and wanted to know the whole story. But I never shared it with them because I found another company that would allow teams and would allow the truck to come home with me. Stevens would have made the situation right - I know that. But I didn't give them a chance to.

Good luck with them! I hope they work out for you.
