countrygirl29; You have my congratulations. Stick with it. Trucking isnt just for men. I hope(that as a man) i am allowed to make a comment in here. I have 19 years driving and soon to retire in Jan. am unemployed at this time by choice. retired Navy in 1988. Just remember to listen to your trainer. HE or She has hopefully enough experience to get you rolling. Remember to get your rest. "NO load is more important than safety(yours and others). Dont forget Safety... best wishes PS: I just happened across this woman's site. wishing you all well.

I'm neither a drunk nor a retard, Squid.

If you are going to post here you better learn who I am. I know everything there is to know about trucking and you are not to question it.

Tell me why...when women drivers can't back it in the dock, they just sit and cry? When they can't grasp the ability to control a big rig the tears just flow. If the shippers, receivers and dispatchers treat them coldly...they cry.

I've seen it too many times. Women are too emotional and just better off having babies. Just because they take a road trip and get starry eyed does not qualify them to drive.

And lastly, if women drivers were so confident they would post in the regular drivers forum and not some back page club where they can make excuses amongst themselves.

Well I do agree with that one, I have heard of women who leave their kids with their parents or someone to go off and drive a truck, I don't think it is right, I think it is selfish. I know some women are going to go on about how they should be able to do what ever they want, but when they have kids involved, I'm sorry but your first concern should be your kids, not living out your fantasy of driving a truck

Big Joe you are a pithy little man. You do know Joe that many women have given their lives (the ultimate sacrifice) on the battle field-------for you and other(s) just like you in not only this war but every (without exception) war preceding it. Yes Joe you may know more about trucking BUT perhaps you should brush up on your history books before you open your pie hole. Shame shame shame on you Joe.Does your Momma know?

Big Joe? Big Fool!
Hey Countrygirl, hope you are still following this, I learned "late" in life how to drive "the truck", was taught by 2 old time drivers, who by the way would probably put BJ's so-called knowledge to shame. Yep, the first few times behind the wheel I questioned my sanity, never mind the career choice...and backing?!?! I will admit getting frustrated, aggravated, and even shed a few tears but I did it, in the beginning it took many tries, a lot of cussing, stepping back, but I DID IT!! I was not about to let anyone do it for me. Help and guidance, sure. Now as time has gone by I look back at those times and laugh at how foolish it seems now. I'll also tell you something else, when you get talking to other drivers( male or female) you will discover that we all have gone through it. Heck, every driver out there newbie or veteran has those "non-backing" days! Everybody is a rookie at some point, some longer than others, no one is born with the gearshift in hand knowing how this job is done( BJ might have been but I doubt the shifter was in his hand). We all have to learn from somebody. Nobody's perfect 100% not even ol' BJ. Hope all is going well.

I've been otr for a few years and still rookie at heart... and snowtiger is right.. Even the experienced drivers, have trouble backing in, be it a lack of experience for that particular type of dock, sick or just plain tired. When you sometimes are out there working 11-16 or more hours, the last thing you want to deal with is a dock that is proportionally sized for a straight truck..... I can't say that I have cried about not being able to get the darn thing backed in, and I have been in some really crazy situations and I have to stand there and ask, "you want me to put my trailer where?"... Sure I've had help by the men out there and I've done it on my own too. Come to think of it, I even helped a few men back into a dock at Gander Sporting Goods, in Indiana.

The key to backing up, is to get out and look and i don't mean get out and look up by your tractor, I mean walk you butt back to your trailer and look at your surroundings. -- so what if they are talking about you doing that, they will really be talking about you if you rip the hood off the neighbor's tractor!

I had a driver in Mount Vernon, IL , get out of his truck, walk around to the front by the hood, and at night, in a sorta dark parking lot there was no way, he was going to be able to see where his trailer was.... he not once, walked back to see where his flatbed trailer with drop down ramps was sitting out and ending up running into the side of the truck I was driving @ the time, putting a hole in the side.. I had tried to back up to get out of his way, and he even THANKED me for backing up... He wanted to argue about hitting me that he didn't "feel" that he hit anything. The problem was he had already been in 2 or 3 other accidents and was going to get fired for one more!.. This was his "one more".....

Moral of the story: GET OUT AND LOOK!!...

I don't have kids... so trucking appealed to me!

The comment about being @ home cooking and cleaning.. that's old school talk... Now if you left kids @ home to pursue this, then yes that is wrong.

But if your situation, that you want a career that eventually, you might be able to make more money then working @ Walmart, cause it's not going to be your first year~!.. You better have a back up plan when /if you fail.. and maybe you won't. Men and women get out there and realize you might be gone from your loved ones for 4-6 months at one time. Not exaggerating. Newbie companies don't want to get you anywhere close to your home, cause you will want to stay home. My first year, I was out 4 months before I got to go home for 2 days.

Good luck!

A woman has no place in a truck. They are too emotional to ever acquire the skills neccessary. You will never drive a truck as good as a man so you might as well go back to what a woman does best...cooking, cleaning, laundry and taking care of her man.

If a woman was able to drive as good as a man then a site for "women drivers" wouldn't be neccessary...they could just join the regular drivers forum.

Don't waste your time nor money...you will fail.

Big Joe Big Joe Big Joe! Shame On You! Shame Shame

Now Some Women Can Handle Both Jobs at Once and still take care of her Man...

You Ever Think OF THAT?
