(Clayton, Ala.) - Reaching a million miles or more of safe driving is a great feat for any professional driver. It takes years of hard work, dedication to safety and a solid relationship with his or her company to ensure that a driver has a record free of accidents or incidents. Boyd Bros. Transportation recently honored two of its drivers for such an achievement: Joe Eddie Johnson for reaching 2 million miles and Johnny Corley for reaching 1 million miles.

Johnson is the company's first owner operator to pass 2 million miles of safe driving. The Texas native found himself in the trucking industry when he needed to build credit to get his real estate license. After going to work for Boyd Bros. 17 years ago, Johnson decided that he had the perfect career with great people to work for and enough income to provide for his family.

As a Texas regional driver, Johnson makes it home on weekends and occasionally through the week, which gives him plenty of time to spend with his wife and three kids, as well as working on the five classic cars he owns.

"This is a difficult job, but the more you do it, the more you get used to it," Johnson advises other drivers. "Safety is the number one thing. If you're in doubt about doing something, ask someone. Good communication is so important."For Corley, reaching one million safe miles is just a part of doing his job. It's necessary, he says, for drivers to pay attention to where they are and the things that are going on around them. Being in a hurry is the fastest way for a driver to get him or herself into trouble.

Both drivers received an awards celebration from Boyd Bros., as well as company apparel and a check. Corley also received an engraved plaque and Johnson received a trophy for their achievements. Boyd Bros. driver benefits include medical and life insurance plans, a referral bonus program and the opportunity to have 24-hours of home time every weekend in 80 percent of its hiring areas. The company also offers late-model equipment, substantial freight, load matching and high standards for safety and service, ensuring productivity and success.
