ANN ARBOR, Mich., and LOUISVILLE, Ky. Every industry has certain unique career milestones which set apart an individual as especially skilled and accomplished in their profession. For a professional truck driver, two million miles of safe driving without an accident is the ultimate measure of excellence. It is an elite club that now counts Henryville, Ind., resident Jack Walker as a member.

Walker is a driver sales representative for Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carrier and the largest subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW). He safely drove the two million miles beginning in June 1985 and reached the two-million-mile mark on June 27. The company will recognize his achievement in a ceremony at its Louisville, Ky., service center, where Walker is based.

"Jack Walker's impressive accomplishment highlights the personal and professional commitment to safety of those of our employees who go behind the wheel of a truck every day, and who make it their business to demonstrate superior safety performance on the highways, in our service centers and at our customers' facilities," said John G. Walker has worked for Con-way Freight for 24 years and has been a professional truck driver for 30 years. He was previously honored by Con-way Freight with awards for one, three, five, 10 and 15 years of safe driving and safe working. Walker’s route takes him from Louisville to Union City, Tenn., a round trip of 522 miles. He has been married for 29 years to his wife, Patricia, and has three children: Lacey, 26; James, 21; and Jack, 19. Walker also has two grandchildren: Lauren, 8; and Andre, three months. In his free time he enjoys hunting, boating and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Over the company's 25-year history, more than 1,500 Con-way Freight driver sales representatives have reached the one-million-mile safe driving milestone, while more than 90 have driven two million miles accident-free.
