JOPLIN, Mo. — Con-way Truckload, a full truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), today announced that one of its professional drivers has achieved the elite career achievement of three million miles of driving. Con-way recognized company driver Robert Wingert of Golden City, Mo., for his accomplishment during a ceremony held at the company’s Joplin headquarters earlier this month. During Con-way Truckload’s 61-year history, only 15 of its drivers have reached the three-million-mile driving mark.

“I am honored to present Robert with this award. He could not be more deserving of it,” said Saul Gonzalez, president of Con-way Truckload. “To put Robert’s accomplishment into perspective, driving three million miles is the same distance as driving the earth’s circumference 120 times. This is a very impressive feat. I want to congratulate Robert on his accomplishment.”

Robert Wingert, 59, began his professional driving career in 1973 and joined the company in 1986. “I started driving because I wanted to see different parts of the country,” he remarked. Robert hit his first million miles in 1996 and his second million in 2004. “I still love the job because I enjoy the scenery and meeting different people,” he added. Staying safe on the road is Robert’s top concern. “Pay attention and don’t get into a hurry,” Robert advised. “Also, be sure not to get out of your comfort zone.”

Robert enjoys fishing, hunting and working on his farm when he is not behind the wheel. Robert and Sharon, his wife of 37 years, have two children, Robert and Randy, and four grandchildren.
