TULSA, OK – Melton Truck Lines, an air-ride flatbed carrier based in Tulsa, OK, is proud to announce that they have recently joined the SmartWayTM Transport Partnership. This program, introduced by the Environmental Protection Agency, encourages freight transportation companies to be more fuel-efficient and to run cleaner for the environment. Over the next four years, the SmartWay Transport Partnership hopes to significantly reduce the amount of dangerous gases emitted by ground transportation.

The SmartWay program began in February of 2004 in an effort to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation vehicles. These harmful gases have been known to cause health problems, especially to the young and the elderly. With nearly 7 million trucks on the road in the United States, it is estimated that the energy utilized by freight trucking will grow rampantly over the next four years. In fact, according to the EPA’s web site (www.epa.gov/smartway), trucks and locomotives burn over 350 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year.

Melton Truck Lines has always strived to implement the latest tools in regards to fuel consumption and fuel efficiency. With this goal in mind, Melton recently established a Fuel Conservation Department that will focus on fuel conservation through new technologies, techniques and education that are the basis of the SmartWay Transport Partnership program. Melton is committing to do its part to reduce the amount of dangerous gases released by their trucks, while improving the environment as a whole.
