Owner Operators - Owner Operator Features

Happy New Year! We are in a brand new year and it is up to you to start off on the right foot with a positive attitude. In last month's article, I mentioned setting realistic goals. Now that we are already into 2009, it is time for you to put the wheels in motion on your New Years' resolutions.

We often start our resolutions with full power and then seem to run out of fuel within the first few months of the new year. I like to compare reaching goals with a long distance runner. You must have your eyes set on the prize and start off with a comfortable, steady pace and then later go full speed ahead.

Keeping focused on the "big picture" will help you stay determined to reach your goal and not get discouraged along the way. Of course, there will be obstacles here and there, but always remember that you can overcome them by thinking positively even while waiting for the economy to recover and dealing with the current recession.

In working to reach your goals, surround yourself with positive people and try to stay away from the negative ones, the ones who will discourage you as you try to continue on.

Another thing is to think about the millions of people that have already accomplished what you are trying to accomplish. Try to read motivational books and come up with personal motivational mantras each morning.

We all know that trucking these days is much tougher than it has been in a long while. The economy may be tough but goals can still be met. Only the smart and strong will survive and that is where faith comes in as well.

Whether your goal is to make more money, buy a new truck, or spend more time with family, going forward you should continue to be business savvy and reflect on those things that have helped you make it this far. Remember, it can be done and it is up to you to see it through and to cross the finish line victoriously.
