Setting Goals for the New Year
With Christmas around the corner and the new year fast approaching, let's not lose focus on the "reason for the season" and to also count our blessings for surviving through one of the worst economic years in U.S. history. During this time of year, people are looking forward to spending time with family and friends, feasting on great food, and exchanging gifts. Although it may be tempting to use your credit cards to purchase gifts, try to overcome that temptation. Many owner-operators will be taking a week or two off during the holiday season-which means no income will be generated. The last thing we want to do is to start the new year off with more debt.
Now is also the time to reflect on 2008 and set goals for 2009. Think about ways you could have been better at managing your business and ways you could have saved more money. Write down the things you want to accomplish-in order-for the new year and remember to set high but reachable goals. This is a good time to do an attitude tune up for the new year as well. If you are not a positive person, make that one of the top priorities on your list. Your attitude has a lot to do with your success and how far you make it in this industry-or any industry for that matter. You can look at the glass as half empty or half full. If you are always looking at the glass as half empty, then your glass (success) will be half empty and it will be almost impossible to reach your goals. But on the other hand, if you always look at your glass as half full, not only will your goals be much easier to achieve but you will be successful as well.
Motivate yourself daily. Motivation is a natural product of your desire to achieve and your belief that you are capable of doing it. The power to achieve is there, but nothing will happen until you get and stay motivated, change your life, and reach your goals. With 2008 coming to a close, enjoy the rest of this year with family, friends, and fellowship, enjoying the good food of the holiday season and remember to be thankful!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
